Almost everyone plays sports, many different sports. Football, Hockey, basketball and volleyball are several of the most common sports that we as human beings play. There are uncommon sports like Dodgeball and Table Tennis (Ping Pong), or sports everyone knows about but at the same time doesn't really know anything about.
In every Phys Ed curriculum across the country there is a variety of sports. In gym we learn to play dodgeball, badminton, and golf. We learn to play basketball, volleyball and baseball. We learn the techniques and some of the rules but we don't learn everything. This blog i dedicated to enlightening the world on the rules and heart of some of the lesser know sports that we all enjoy.
DODGEBALL
Dodgeball is a game that consists of two teams of eight players playing on a tennis court. The players race to the center line to get as many of the rubber and foam balls as possible and bring them back to their attack line. Players will then proceed to throw the balls at their opponents, below the shoulders, to try and get them out. If any player on the other team catches a thrown ball or is struck by a ball thrown, then they are out. The games have a ten minute time limit and the team with the most players at the end of this time period wins. There are usually no officials in Dodgeball. During league play there is a supervisor who monitor any disagreements between the two teams. In tournaments there are three officials in the final rounds to call outs. These are the basic rules of dodgeball.
Now, has anyone ever learned this in their gym class? I never, most of what I know about the game I learned by watching movies. Did you know that there are actual leagues out there for dodgeball, and an association. The N.A.D.A is in place to monitor all the rules and codes of conduct for dodgeball. I had no idea that all this truly existed. Dodgeball still isn't my favorite sport and I'm not going to go out a join a team anywhere. But it's nice to know that there is something out there for people who don't enjoy sports like football and hockey can play or just watch and enjoy. There's so much more out there for sports than we realize in school and we should learn more about them.

I like Dodgeball; it quite fun. There's also different versions of this game that you can play: Doctor dodgeball, where one player on a team acts as a "Doctor" and if somebody on there team gets hit by the ball and becomes out; the doctor can tag that person and bring them back into the game. There is also Jail where there is a seperate line on each side of the game, and if you get tagged you have to go to the opponents jail and stay their until you catch the ball and hit somebody else on the opponent team; then you are allowed to go back to your side and start playing the game again. Dodgeball is great for physical exercise, and just for plain fun.
